#25 of 47 Things

I like to keep my Blog clean and simple, not so much stuff, too cluttered! There are lots of fun gadgets and tools to look over. I had added the snow effect and it made my blog flicker, so I removed it. I did add the Google search box. I also have added a site meter to see how many people visit my blog. I also added a picture trail, which I think turned out well. I did try many other things, one being the speech/audio section. Many looked really fun, but again too much on the blog gets messy.

#24 of 47 Things

OK Here we go again. I hope to do better this time. It took me two tries last time. I gave my Blog a new look, although I liked the way it looked before. I gave my avatar a new look for winter. I do try and keep "her" up to date depending on time of year. I also added a gadget, current weather. I seem to always have to know what the weather is doing or going to do. So adding that gadget was fun. I also added the Google search gadget. I have looked at most Blogs, but have not commented on any of them. I will try harder to do that. So, here we go with "23 More Things".

#23 of 23 Things

WOW!! I did it!! It took me two times, but I did it. I have to admit I rushed through the last 4 or 5 to get done, so I will definitely go back and look at those closer. This was so fun and educational. I really learned alot about different tools on the web. I enough impressed my daughter and some of things I learned and that is pretty good when you can impress a college student about something on the computer! Ha! Well, like I said I will definietely use these tools and I will go back and look some of the Things closer. Thank you to everyone involved.

I found this whole experience very educational. I already use some of the tools every day and others from time to time. I will definitely go back and look at all of the 23 Things again. Some of the tools I will use for personel use and some for work. This was really all very fun.

I joined Gather and Ning, I was already a member of Web Junction. I really liked Ning. I joined the 23 Things on A Stick group. I think I will go back to this often and join in conversations, etc. And also see how everyone else did on this 23 Things and what they thought about it.

#20 of 23 Things

I have set up accounts on MySpace and Facebook. I go to Facebook almost everyday. My contacts/friends are my daughter and her friends and also some of my son's friends. I use it for personel reasons to keep up with everything. I also went to some library groups on Facebook, did not join. I had a MySpace page before, but could not get back in - so set up a new name and low and behold it found my old one. I do not go to or use MySpace very much, as you can tell, I forgot the name. I do not know if these sites would work well in a library or not. Maybe if I knew a little more about each site, they may work. I have not looked at these sites in depth. These sites and fun to play around with and a good way to keep in touch with people you do not see very often.

#19 of 23 Things

I checked out Yahoo Podcasts and Podcasts.com. They were both easy to search for what I was looking for. I did have problems trying to get CNN podcast downloaded to by blog, so I just gave up, spent too much time on it. I did sign up for Podcast.com and know they will send me emails and updates, etc. I think I will use this from time to time and may explore into it a bit further. This one was also fun.

#18 of 23 Things

I looked at YouTube and Yahoo videos and Google videos. I thought they were all OK sites, as far as searching for what I wanted to look at. I downloaded the pandas just because I like pandas. They are so cute. I think you could use learning videos on library web sites. Make your own video about your library and put it on your web page. I think you could videos for almost any reason on your school/public library web sites. This Thind was fun.

I have worked with ELM many times. I have gone to workshops that they have put on. It is a wonderful site to find anything you need. Great for students working on papers for school. Or just to find information in general. I use this site from time to time. It is great!

#16 of 23 Things

I think this would be wonderful for teachers and students. Help get everything organized and keep track of the timeline for when it is due. I would pass this information on to my daughter in college. I think she would love it. I also, think you could use this in the Public libraries, alot of students and teachers use the Public libraries as well as the school libraries. I will come back look at this again.

I am not very good at games on-line or video games. So this one was hard for me. I did set up an account on Second Life and walked around for a while. Just trying to walk around was hard for me. It took a while to down load it on my computer and was very slow as I was in the game. I am not sure how this would work in libraries. I hope to come back to this again and see if I can get it to work better for me.

#14 of 23 Things

I set up an account on LibraryThing. I did a little exploreing through the site. I could see where this would be a wonderful site for librarians and avid readers. I may go back to this site and look at it more after my 23 Things are done and add more to my account.

#13 of 23 Things

I set up an iGoogle page, and My Yahoo page, and also PageFlakes. They are all very similar. I do go to the iGoogle page ever day and the My Yahoo page from time to time. It is nice to have everything that you want on one page. I also go to PageFlakes about once a week. I do not think I will make any of these my home page.
I do like the calendar tools. I have a calendar set up on my Yahoo page with Birthdays on it and it sends me an email when a Birthday is coming up in a few days and also the day of the Birthday. I tried the To Da List and Remember Milk list tools. They were very easy and great tools, but I am a paper and pen person, with lists in my purse and at home on the counter and also sticky notes around my desk. For me it is easier to grab a pen and paper and quick write a note, then to go to the site and have to enter it in. I guess it would be something I could try. Backpack was fun to go through and could really be a great place to keep everything you need for an event, trip, meeting, etc.
I tried 30 Boxes, I thought it was too confusing. Also, looked at Stikkit. I have used Zamzar and this is an easy way to transform you files, worksheets, from one format to another.
This was a fun and educational Thing to do.

#12 of 23 Things

I went to all four of these sights and read some of the articles. I also did the tours/intro for all four of them. I set up accounts in all four also. It is a very fast and easy way to see what the top stories are for the day. Also, if you have favorite things you like to keep up with, you can customize your personal page on the sites and look up articles/news on your favorite topics, etc. I think this would be a good tool for libraries to have. Students need to write a report on the current events, they just go to one of these sights and it is right there for them to read and write a report about it.
I may use these sights from time to time. They have alot of information on one website, and it can be personalized for each indiviuals likes.

#11 of 23 Things

Tagging and Del.icio.us. I did do the tagging on my Flickr pictures. That was fun and now when I want a certain picture for a special reason, I can bring it up by tagging a certain subject, etc.
I also played around with and added a del.icio.us button to my tool bar. This is a fun and exciteing tool. If I have certain topics, or interests, I just add them to my del.icio.us account with my del.icio.us button. And they are up to date. This was a fun and educational Thing for me.

#10 of 23 Things

I watched the video and I explored other Wikis. I do not know if I would ever have a use for a Wiki. I did go to wikispaces.com and set up a Wiki for myself. Just to try it. Like the video shows, a bunch of people from different areas who need to plan a meeting, trip, etc. this would be great.

Just a Joke for fun!

A young fellow in the midst of cutting up in the library, was approached by the librarian.
"Please be quiet," she said, "the people around you can't read."
"They can't?" said the boy. "Then what are they doing in the library?"

I looked over both Zoho writer and Google Docs, they seem to be about the same. I could see where this would be usefull for anyone who may do some work from home and pull up their documents online. Rather than carry them home with you. Just pull them up on your computer at home and work on them, making changes and saving it, etc. I could see school students doing this also from home. To do their homework on-line and print it out at home or at school. If there were a time where I knew I would have to work on a document from home, I would use these and I think it would be great. Thing #9 is done.
